Sammie is passionate about all forms of ecology, but especially marine biology. This interest started as a child when she read "Whales of the World" by Lyall Watson, and the fascination never left.  She holds a degree in Marine Zoology and is enjoys studying the nature of underappreciated friends in the reef keeping world: the invertebrates. She usually has some fun fact about urchins, snails, or crabs when asked. Did you know that barnacles are crustaceans, like crabs? While new to reef keeping as a hobby, her deep appreciation and understanding of ocean systematics usually provides insight into problems within a tank. When not at work, Sammie volunteers with the National Aquarium with their seal rehabilitation program. She also enjoys drawing, and sewing. She is the proud owner of two rowdy Darwin Clownfish.
